Economy on Food Essay

Numerous Americans devour food at a disturbing rate without halting to consider what they truly may be gobbling or how it wound up on their plate. On the off chance that we just set aside the effort to perceive how our food frameworks functioned, we would see the domino influence streaming down from government to average day Americans. With the end goal for us to have the option to develop and create food, ranchers are paid by our administration as appropriations. These yields frequently don't develop normally from the beginning. Synthetics are siphoned into the Earth messing up our condition. That food is than sent on ventures everywhere throughout the world, including stops at feed parcels. Creatures are taken care of the yield which has a bigger number of cons than aces to their stomach related framework and their bodies making meat have a higher centralization of fat. Obviously these items are then appropriated to our supermarkets and we get them without a tiny smidgen of delay. Every single one of these means has an effect on the other and it may all be constrained by one issue †government endowments. Without this control ranchers may have the activity to develop with their psyches set on quality over amount which thusly will have more advantageous effects on each degree of our food economy. Ranchers are enormous donors toward the nourishment for our general public. The administration pays ranchers by controlling the flexibly and request through endowments keeping the ranchers their employments. Be that as it may, the appropriations depend on what number of bushels a rancher can develop, which prompts an overproduction. A case of a profoundly financed crop is corn. Alone, this harvest causes natural, animal cultivating, and society medical problems. As indicated by Michael Pollan, a creator, lobbyist, and Professor of news coverage at the University of California, Berkeley, for ranchers to grow a plentiful measure of corn it requires more synthetic compounds and pesticides to keep up developing conditions. These synthetic compounds in the long run discover its way into the Mississippi River to the Gulf of Mexico, slaughtering marine life (45). At the point when this harvest is sold, ranchers with domesticated animals get it as animal feed, for it is modest. â€Å"Most of the creatures we eat (chickens, pigs, and bovines) today remain alive on a careful nutritional plan of corn, reguardless whether or not it is useful for them† (Pollan, 44). Cows are not use to an all corn diet which makes ranchers feed them anti-microbials to fend off any ailment as well as diseases. When these creatures give investigations they are sent to a butcher house to turn into the meat we eat, which is loaded up with anti-microbials and corn. Corn arrives in a sugar added substance structure be progressively precise - Meline Akashian 11/27/10 3:25 PM called high fructose corn syrup. It is generally found in soda pops since it is so sweet and modest. Because of the appropriation, it replaced sugar. There is â€Å"†¦ no occurrence that the discount change to corn sugars in 1980’s imprints the start of the pandemic of stoutness and Type 2 Diabetes in this country† (Pollan, 44). Since the appropriation caused overproduction and amazingly low costs, America has released itself in getting one of the fattest and laziest countries by going to drive-through eateries rather than home prepared suppers. The administration pays ranchers to develop these wares (I. e. corn, soy, wheat, rice, and cotton) for their overproduction and â€Å"†¦ the ranch bill what homestead bill? offer setting for quote - Meline Akashian 11/27/10 3:26 PM does practically nothing to help ranchers becoming new produce†¦ The explanation the least energizing calories in the grocery store are the least expensive is that those are the ones the homestead bill urges ranchers to grow† (Pollan, You Are What You Grow). While products of the soil costs expanded 40 percent from 1985-2000, the cost of soda pops, containing corn, declined 23 percent (Pollan, You Are What You Grow). Through government sponsorships and the homestead charge, it has caused a few issues concerning the earth, and creature and society wellbeing. Government appropriations should be taken a gander at and changed impressively. Ranchers need to stop overproduction and as opposed to being paid by bushels, be addressed to restrict creation and bolster costs (Pollan, You Are What You Grow). By supporting costs and constraining creation, yields may not be so high sought after, further bringing about creatures eating what they are familiar with and Americans eating more beneficial with less obscure added substances put into their food. Here you have moved to potential arrangements †spare it for that segment. - Meline Akashian 11/27/10 3:28 PM The overproduction of corn in America has brought up numerous issues with respect to the procedure and creation of corn and how today is influencing us Americans. Need an alternate progress here, one that twists off from last section - Meline Akashian 11/27/10 3:29 PM Many narratives about corn, the creation, procedure, and circulation have been tried different things with and gotten on tape, while more issues have ascended about states of corn and cultivating. Such Aforementioned issues have uncovered that however corn is modest and simple, it expands wellbeing dangers for our bodies and to creatures also. Michael Pollan writer of â€Å"When A Crop Becomes King,† author for the New York Times expresses that â€Å"nowhere have people done very as a lot to propel the interests of this plant as in North America , where zea mays has implied itself into our scene, our food framework and our government financial plan. † Pollan is uncovering that individuals may scrutinize the food creation and if makers are paying special mind to our wellbeing or not. We despite everything purchase similar items and dont pose the significant inquiries, however, we simply acknowledge that it is a lifestyle. We gripe that food is unfortunate and there are once in a while any choices that are similarly as snappy and delicious as cheap food, rather, we have to pick our own choices rather then accuse the inexpensive food industry. Corn has been handled and has become an American item for as far back as barely any decades, â€Å"we’re relinquishing the wellbeing of both our bodies and the earth by developing and eating such an extensive amount it[†¦ ]that’s cause for our concern† states Polan in another statement from The New York Times. In spite of the fact that we have the creation of corn prepared in nourishments and took care of to creatures to make there meat progressively greasy, the best methodology that has kept the zea mays in business is the improvement of high fructose corn syrup. Look on the backs of pop jars, pieces of candy, even apples and you will see that there is high fructose corn syrup in our naturalized items. Corns being prepared into the entirety of our nourishments, beverages, and creatures is just piece of the issue, Polan states that â€Å"Modern corn half and halves are the greediest of plants, requesting more nitrogen manure than some other yield additionally requiring more pesticide then some other harvest. † Corn isn’t as modest as we presume it to be, the eating routine for corn comprises of a plethera of water and is splashed with synthetics each time it’s developed. Because of the synthetics that are showered, â€Å"these synthetic substances discover its way to the Mississippi River which conveys it to the Gulf of Mexico, which has just slaughtered marine life in a 12,000 square mile territory. † Polan again uncovers that on the off chance that we make a stride back, we will understand that our condition is enduring the same amount of as we seem to be, we are impermanent on this planet we have to recollect that the earth isn't to be tempered with, yet regular. The procedure of cornification and new turns of events if modest and simple items, has cause a domino influence in our wellbeing framework. In spite of the fact that our condition is enduring due to over utilization of synthetic concoctions, we don't end there. decent T - Meline Akashian 11/27/10 3:33 PM According to the U. S Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service, every year in the United States, 10 billion land creatures are raised and murdered for meat, eggs, and milk. To a normal American with no earlier information on our food economy this may appear to be a little certainty, notwithstanding; it is the manner by which these animals are cultivated which has critical results on our social orders wellbeing. Livestock government assistance master Dr. Donald Broom states; â€Å"Efforts to accomplish prior and quicker development, more prominent creation per individual, and proficient feed changes and apportioning are the reasons for a portion of the most noticeably terrible creature government assistance issues. † The cultivating of domesticated animals has changed significantly over the previous hundreds of years. Many despite everything consider cultivating the country assortments of outbuildings and field where animals are allowed to nibble and move about until they are executed viably, â€Å"in reality, a few homesteads are enormous mechanical sort offices possessed and worked by huge corporations†¦ [and] in spite of the fact that they make up a little level of American ranches, they handle a huge level of the animals murdered for food in the United States† (Breakdown of Livestock Farms, North American Industry Classification System in Census of Agriculture). These production line ranches are otherwise called CAFO’s or Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations. In light of the over creation of corn, these creatures consumes less calories comprise of only it. Since corn is a high-starch, high-vitality food, it diminishes the time it takes to stuff the dairy cattle and expands the yield from these homesteads. As indicated by the narrative, King Corn, steers are taken care of for anyplace between 140-160 days and than butchered, be that as it may; corn isn't the characteristic eating routine of steers and since it isn't, numerous issues have originated from this unusual eating regimen. They are getting fatter at a disturbing rate which is useful for the company’s wallets however not for our midsection lines considering â€Å"65% of calories from burgers are vitality calories from fat† causing an immediate line between hefty dairy animals, and corpulent Americans (King Corn). The issue exists in the cattle’s stomach related framework. The substantial corn diet ferments the cow’s stomach related tract and makes microorganisms structure.

As I wrote in my blurb on the cover: “Buy this book for yourself, your family, your students. Don’t put it off and don’t look away. It’s time.” If you don’t know about Layla Saad, here’s the story: She woke up one day in 2017 to see images on TV of White Supremacists (or as Trump called them that day “very fine people”) marching through Charlottesville, Virginia in broad daylightâ€"their arms raised in Nazi salutes. Her heart broke. Into that broken heart poured sudden instructions from the divine: She was given to understand that actively combatting White Supremacy was now her life’s work. Layla immediately sat down and began creating a workbook called ME AND WHITE SUPREMACYâ€"a free educational resource, intended to teach white people all about White Supremacy (where it comes from; how it destroys lives; how it continues to benef it people with white skin; and how to combat it). Layla put this wise and heartfelt workbook on the internet, open to anyone who wanted it. The workbook became an overnight global phenomenon. Tens of thousands of people downloaded it and studied it. I was one of them. As a result of Layla’s work, I can never again see the world the same way. And now FINALLY that workbook has been expanded into a proper book! My wish is that all of you will buy this book, read it, discuss it, and teach your children what you learn. My dearest hope is that this book will put you to work to help change culture. A Poet Langston Hughes - Free Essay Example

Langston Hughes is more than a poet, novelist, and playwright; he is an iconic figure who served as the leading voice of the Harlem Renaissance. Known as the New Negro Movement, the Harlem Renaissance laid the pathway for self expression, cultural expression, and pride for african americans on their journey for equality. Effects were felt worldwide as even african colonies in France were even influenced by the movement. Hughes became a voice for all African Americans while showing the beauty of the culture. Growing up, Hughes has never been dependent on another. His mother was absent throughout many periods during his childhood searching for a secure job. With his father in Mexico, Hughes spent time hoping from place to place as his never seemed to be stable. Experiencing the effects of oppression while maturing, Hughes could not have come around a more appropriate time than the period of the Harlem Renaissance. American Literature and African American influences on it would simply not be the same without him. Poems like The Weary Blues gives insight to how African Americans are viewed through the eyes of the whites. Descriptions such as the way they sway, negro, fool, and other forms of slang used to dehumanize their race, are combined with the message of the beauty and wonderful art that they are able to create while ignoring these remarks. I believe one of the driving meanings of the poem is to reveal to the world the black mans soul is being freed by the blues and their melancholy tone. The poem uniqueness lays in the point of view provided. The people watching with questions, presumably the white race, and the people being watched, the blacks. Langston was regularly alluded to as the main organizer of jazz poetry. His mix of style reflected that of the Blues music. Hughes bended jazz to forms of music and turned its relevance to new heights with his unique taste of style and passion for the work. Hughes has cemented his legacy as one of the most involved all around great minds of his generation. Jazz Poetry was driven by many innovators, one of the most important being Langston Hughes. Hughes was not part of the common jazz enthusiasts. Jazz poetry was an art which Hughes used to express his emotions about the struggle of the common black man in America. At an opportune time, Hughes affection for the music discovered its way to make impact, offering popularity and attention to the combination sort known as jazz. Hughes felt that jazz verse could be a particularly African-American artistic form of expression, similar to jazz itself. His goal was to keep jazz distinguishable from white poetry for purposes of individual ident ity. Hughes would often reflect jazz in his traditional poetry with similar reading patterns to jazz. When he expounded on jazz, Hughes frequently consolidated unusual yet unique rhythms and creative dialect in order to create a new wave of music jazz. Langston Hughes will dependably be an essential figure in the Jazz type. The unique form of his ballads frequently captured the hearts of the African American community in Harlem. With his works of art and writing, he could express his very own social personality and social issues which stuck close to his heart.

The And Family Therapist Is Influenced By Personal...

The decision to embark on the journey to become a marriage and family therapist is commonly influenced by personal experiences that impact and transform an individual. My experience involves countless medical appointments, multiple misdiagnoses, and an extraordinary will to persevere. The culmination of this arduous experience was my son’s Autism diagnosis at the age of three, prior to this diagnosis I worked tirelessly to obtain the help my child my needed. Being a parent of a special needs child leaves little to no option of failing; hence my child has taught me to be strong, even in the most difficult and darkest times of my life. This experience inspired me to help other families and individuals encountering hardship. As I began the†¦show more content†¦The therapists I met adhered to the medical model, which in turn resulted in minimizing the importance of culture, personal experience, and knowledge of child rearing. Often times, I felt criticized and inadequate as a parent because I was not following the â€Å"North American† model of raising children. I migrated to this country in 1988, at the height of the Nicaraguan civil war in the midst of violence and famine. Nevertheless, my Nicaraguan culture transcended borders, including the collectivist form of raising children. In Nicaragua the entire family, including extended family members (grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins) help raise children. Undoubtedly, these child-rearing practices present unique challenges for Nicaraguan and Latino migrants living in a society that encourages and rewards individualism. Almost thirty years have passed since I migrated, but some traditions and culture remain unchanged. Consequently the idea of including extended family members in my child’s upbringing seemed unrealistic to most of the therapists I met; why would I want to include my extended family members in decisions concerning my child? Why would I want my mother’s opinion and guidance regarding my son’s Autism diagnosis? Nonetheless, this strange notion inhibited the therapeutic relationship, what was strange and appalling to some therapists, was normalized by a culturally competent marriage and family therapist. At last, I

Should I Earn a Hospitality Management Degree

A hospitality management degree is an academic degree awarded to students who have finished a college, university, or business school program with a focus on hospitality management. Students in this specialization study the hospitality industry, or more specifically the planning, organizing, leading and controlling of the hospitality industry. The hospitality industry is a service industry and includes sectors like travel and tourism, lodging, restaurants, bars. Do You Need a Hospitality Management Degree? A degree is not always required to work in the hospitality management field. There are many entry-level positions that require nothing more than a high school diploma or the equivalent. However, a degree can give students an edge and may be especially helpful in securing more advanced positions. Hospitality Management Curriculum Although curriculum can vary depending on the level you are studying at as well as the hospitality management program you attend, there are some subjects you can expect to study while earning your degree. Among them are food safety and sanitation, operations management, marketing, customer service, hospitality accounting, purchasing, and cost control. Types of Hospitality Management Degrees There are four basic types of hospitality management degrees that can be earned from a college, university, or business school: Associate Degree in Hospitality Management: An associate degree program in hospitality management typically includes general education courses as well as several classes devoted specifically to hospitality management. These programs usually take two years to complete. After earning an associate degree, you could seek entry-level employment in the hospitality management field or go on to pursue a bachelor degree in hospitality management or a related area.Bachelor Degree in Hospitality Management: If you have not already earned an associate degree, a bachelor degree program in hospitality management will take approximately four years to complete. You may take a core set of general education courses in addition to courses focused on hospitality management.Master Degree in Hospitality Management: A master degree in hospitality management rarely includes general education courses. However, you can expect to take core courses focused on your major, and you may have the opportunity to choo se your electives so that you can specialize in a particular area of hospitality management. Most master programs take two years to complete, but one-year programs do exist at some business schools.Doctorate Degree in Hospitality Management: A doctorate degree program in hospitality management involves a great deal of research as well as a thesis. These programs usually take three to five years to complete, though program length can vary depending on the school as well as the degrees you have already earned. Hospitality Management Career Options There are many different types of careers that can be pursued with a hospitality management degree. You could choose to become a general manager. You may also decide to specialize in a particular area, such as lodging management, food service management, or casino management. Some other options may include opening your own restaurant, working as an event planner, or pursuing a career in travel or tourism. Once you have some experience in the hospitality industry, it is definitely possible to move up to more advanced positions. You can also move around within the industry. For example, you could work as a lodging manager and then switch over to something like restaurant management or event management with relative ease.   Job Titles for Hospitality Management Grads Some popular job titles for people who hold a hospitality management degree include: Lodging Manager: Lodging managers supervise the operations of hotels, motels, and other types of resorts. They may work as general managers, revenue managers, front office managers, or convention area managers.Restaurant Manager: Restaurant managers (sometimes known as food service managers) supervise restaurant operations. They may own the restaurant or work for someone else. Responsibilities may include overseeing food safety, hiring and firing staff, ordering inventory, monitoring labor and inventory costs, marketing and advertising, and restaurant accounting.Casino Manager: Casino managers oversee casino operations. They may work as general managers, gaming supervisors, food service managers, customer relations managers, or convention managers.Cruise Director: Cruise directors oversee operations on a cruise ship. Their responsibilities may include activity planning, scheduling, public announcements, and performing concierge-type services.Concierge: A concierge works at a special desk in the hotel. Their primary objective is to keep customers happy. This may involve making reservations, sharing information about the hotel, securing items a hotel guest needs, and resolving complaints.Travel Agent: Travel agents help people plan vacations. They typically perform research and make reservations on their clients behalf. Travel agents may work as independent contractors. They can also work for existing travel agencies. Joining a Professional Organization Joining a professional organization is a good way to get more involved in the hospitality industry. This is something you can do before or after earning your hospitality management degree. One example of a professional organization in the hospitality industry is the  American Hotel and Lodging Association  (AHLA), a national association representing all sectors of the lodging industry. Members include hospitality management students, hoteliers, property managers, university faculty, and others with a stake in the hospitality industry. The AHLA site offers information about careers, education, and much more.

Should Same Sex Marriage Be Legalized in the United States...

Debate Paper Should same sex marriage be legalized in the United States? In some of our states laws have already been passed to allow same sex couples the freedom to get married, while other states are still resisting for one reason or another. As with everything else there is more than one side, more than one argument supporting and more than one argument resisting the changes being proposed. There are religious reasons, moral reasons, constitutional reasons and financial reasons being used by both sides and the debate seems to get nowhere. For every argument for the issue there is always an argument against it. I have my own opinion about the issue, however I will look at the arguments themselves on each side to identify which side has†¦show more content†¦As for the pro side of the issue, they have plenty of their own arguments. One of them is that gay marriage will not harm traditional marriage or family values in any way. According to studies done by the American Anthropological So ciety there is no support to show that marriage has to be a heterosexual institution. Another argument is that if marriage was strictly for purposes of reproduction, then couples in which one or both partners were infertile, or too old to conceive would not be able to marry. A favorite among homosexual couples is that they should have the same benefits that heterosexual couples enjoy, including family health plans, social security benefits and tax exemptions. The final argument that I found for gay marriage is that it is not a religious issue so it religious beliefs should have no effect on whether or not they are allowed to get married. I believe that the stronger arguments on this issue are the pro -gay marriage arguments. The institution of marriage is already weak with almost half of the traditional marriages ending in divorce, and the studies done by the Anthropological Society show that allowing gay marriage will not make a difference in the current trends. One of the purposes of traditional marriage is to reproduce, however not all straight couples are able to do that naturally and they have to use alternate methodsShow MoreRelatedWhy Same Sex Marriage Should Be Legal1478 Words   |  6 PagesWhy Same Sex Marriage Shouldn’t be Allowed Why shouldn’t Same Sex Marriage legalized? string(50) " profile manager and the user profile is updated\." Slow Internet Connection 1. Faulty electrical connection near Internet modem/router Faulty electrical connections can be caused by bad cabling and loose connections. If it’s a cable modem, the modem must be attached to the first cable split and preferably the connection with the greatest signal level. We will write a custom essay sample on Causes of Slow Internet and Solut or any similar topic only for you Order Now If it’s a DSL circuit, no other cables should attach to the circuit between the telephone company box and the DSL splitter. . DSL circuit frequency interference If it’s a DSL circuit, interference from other circuits in the telephone company’s cable bundle can cause packet loss, latency and outages. T1 circuits are prone for causing problems. T1 circuits installed in neighbors’ offices can interfere with DSL. 3. Interference from Wi-Fi radio in Internet Modem/Router Some Internet companies supply modems and routers with built-in Wi-Fi access point capabilities. The built-in access point can be convenient, but it can play havoc with the modem/router itself.Wi-Fi operates in the 2. 4 Ghz frequency range. That is the same for many cordless phones and microwaves. Using any 2. 4 Ghz device in close proximity to the Wi-Fi enabled modem/router can overload the receive side of a Wi-Fi radio and could cause many problems including device resets. This is true even if the Wi-Fi is not being used as long as the radio is turned on. Make sure the Wi-Fi radio is turned off in software programming for any Internet modem/router. If Wi-Fi is needed, install a stand alone access point. 4. Virus, Worm or Trojan on a PCViruses, worms and Trojans can do more than just slow down a PC, they can slow down an entire network. Depending on what they are doing, they can be sending out significant network traffic that can slow down an internal network and give the appearance that the Internet is slow. They can also be sending traffic out to the Internet which would indeed slow down the Internet because they are consuming such a large quantity of bandwidth. It is wise to check PCs for malware anytime a network is slow for no apparent reason. 5.Quality of Service (QoS) Parameters Are Not Set Appropriately for the Available Internet Speed When Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is being used as well as other realtime data applications, many companies install/program QoS parameters into their Internet routers. One field in the configuration is the amount of available bandwidth. The router must know this in order to know when it is time to employ packet prioritization. It also means that the router will not pass through any more bandwidth then this availability setting even if more is available. If QoS settings are active in router configurations, make sure they are appropriate for the available bandwidth. 6. Congested ISP ISPs frequently become congested during heavy traffic and sometimes during normal traffic use. Congestion can also happen between routers in their network and are especially prevalent in meet points between two ISPs. Detecting ISP congestion requires monitoring the Internet circuit with an ISP Packet Loss and Delay Test Tool. If the problem is intermittent, then the tool must monitor over an extended period of time such as several days or even a week. 7. ISP Not Delivering Promised SpeedUnless the Internet connection is a fixed circuit such as a T1, the delivered bandwidth from an ISP can vary throughout the day. Typically, the varied rate is due to congestion but it can be other factors as well. Still the rate can frequently be below the expected bandwidth. Speed tests can help determine the delivered bandwidth at a precise moment in time. Be careful, as speed tests results can frequently be misleading and they measure only what is happening at one moment versus an extended period of time. 8. Old Browser Profiles Some Web browsers such as Firefox have profiles that can become bloated and corrupted after a while.Unfortunately, they usually work well enough that you wouldn’t know they’re corrupted. Create a new profile occasionally—especially when you update to major new versions of the software—and see if that doesn’t speed up your browsing. 9. High Bandwidth Usage If you like to download large files such as movies, music and other multi-gigabyte files—and you like to do all these things simultaneously—you will probably see significant slowdown unless you are running a high bandwidth connection such as business-class Internet such as a T1 connection. 10. Multiple Users of Bandwidth If you have multiple  computers  using the same connection, each computer uses some of the connection. The more people using the same connection the slower it will run for each. Worse, with Wi-Fi someone within range of your router may be hijacking your connection and slowing it down as a result 11. Malware Less common although still a danger is malware. If your computer becomes infected with certain malware it can be turned into what is known as a zombie, which means that the computer becomes a slave that is at the whim of whoever controls the malware. That person can use your computer for whatever he wants in the background without you knowing it, such as for sending spam emails. To avoid this, use a dependable antivirus, antimalware and firewall software to keep your computer secure. How Requests are Processed over the Internet | HTTP request/response path The numeric steps below refer to the steps shown above 1. When the user requests a document, the browser issues the request to the local proxy server. 2. This request first goes through an HTTP request filter. The request may be immediately satisfied (e. g. f the request is for a site that is blocked out, such as advertisements), may be modified (e. g. header compression), or may be passed through without modification. Determination of filterable requests is based on substring matching of URLs to key strings and running corresponding scripts defined in a configuration file. 3. If a response was not generated immediately, the request is logged by the local profile manager and the user profile is updated. You read "Causes of Slow Internet and Solut" in category "Papers" 4. The request is then passed on to the cache manager. 5. The profile manager will create a pre-fetch list based on the usage profile and send it to the pre-fetcher. . Requests which change the profile, specifically URLs which point to HTML pages, are sent to the backbone profile engine to enable backbone aggressive pre-fetches and to update the backbone profiles. Note that the use of an explicit connection to send the profile updates is mainly for ease of implementation. A more efficient mechanism would be to piggy-back such data on HTTP requests that gets transmitted from the local proxy server to the backbone proxy server. 7. Periodically, the backbone profile engine returns a list of recommended pages to pre-fetch based on group profiles. This can occur when many users of a particular group visit a particular page. Similar to above, such information can be piggy-backed onto HTTP responses in a more efficient implementation. 8. The recommended URLs are operated on by a function in the HTTP request filter to eliminate URLs that would be filtered (i. e. , we do not want to pre-fetch items that we will filter). This new list is submitted to the pre-fetcher. 9. The pre-fetcher collates the pre-fetch list and group document pre-fetch recommendations that are found to be not filterable. It then amortizes the pre-fetch requests to the cache manager. 10. If the cache has a fresh copy of the document originally requested, the request is satisfied immediately. 11. Otherwise, the request is forwarded to the backbone proxy server. 12. The normal HTTP transaction occurs between the backbone cache manager and the WWW server. 13. After retrieval, the document is passed through the backbone HTTP response filter. 14. The response is sent back to the local cache manager, who will cache the document if it is a cacheable item. It is then sent back to the browser (10). 15.The backbone profile manager maintains individual as well as group profiles. Periodically, it creates a list of recommended group documents and sends it to the local proxy server (7) of each member of the group. As profile updates arrive, it creates a list of documents to pre-fetch based on individual and group usage profiles. The only difference from the local pre-fetch list is that the backbone list is longer (i. e. , we do more aggressive pre-fetches on the backbone). This list is then submitted to the backbone pre-fetch engine. 16. The backbone pre-fetcher will issue the necessary pre-fetch requests.Causes of Possible Delays The main issues that can adversely affect the performance and scalability of your Web services are: * Incorrect communication mechanism. Currently, there are three main technologies for remoting a method call: Enterprise Services, . NET remoting, and ASP. NET Web services. The best choice depends upon various factors, including the source and target platforms, whether you need to communicate across an intranet or the Internet, whether you require additional services such as distributed transactions, your security equirements, deployment considerations (such as whether your communication must pass through a firewall), other port limitations, and so on. * Web services. Use Web services to build your services. * Enterprise Services. If you use Web services to build your services, you may still need to use Enterprise Services within your service implementation. For example, you may need it to support distributed transactions or if you want to use object pooling. * . NET remoting. Use remoting for same-process, cross-application domain communication or for remote communication if you need to integrate with a legacy protocol. If you use remoting, avoid custom proxies, custom sinks, and using contexts. This helps to avoid compatibility issues with future communication technologies. * Chatty calls. Network round trips to and from a Web service can be expensive. This issue is magnified if clients need to issue multiple requests to a Web service to complete a single logical operation. * Improper choice of parameters. Your choice of parameters depends upon various factors, such as interoperability, the varying platforms used by the clients, maintainability, the type of encoding format used, and so on.Improper choice of parameters can lead to a number of issues, including increased serialization costs and potential versioning problems for the Web service (for example where a custom type is updated). Where possible, you should use primitive types. If interoperability is an issue, consider using the  XmlElement  andXmlDocument  types and choose types specific to your application, such as an  Employee  or  Person  class. * Serialization. Serializing large amounts of data and passing it to and from Web services can cause performance-related issues, including network congestion and excessive memory and processor overhead. Improper data transfer strategies for large amounts of data. Selecting an appropriate data transfer strategy — such as using a SOAP extension that performs compression and decompression or offloading data transfer to other services — is critical to the performance of your Web services solution. * Improper choice of encoding format. You can use either literal or SOAP encoding. SOAP encoding involves more SOAP-processing overhead as compared to literal encoding. * Lack of caching or inefficient caching. In many situations, application or perimeter caching can improve Web services performance.Caching-related issues that can significantly affect Web services performance include failure to use caching for Web methods, caching too much data, caching inappropriate data, and using inappropriate expiration settings. * Inefficient state management. Inefficient state management design in Web services can lead to scalability bottlenecks because the server becomes overloaded with state information that it must maintain on a per-user basis. Common pitfalls for Web services state management include using stateful Web methods, using cookie container based state management, and choosing an inappropriate state store. The most scalable Web services maintain no state. * Misuse of threads. It is easy to misuse threads. For example, you might create threads on a per-request basis or you might write code that misuses the thread pool. Also, unnecessarily implementing a Web method asynchronously can cause more worker threads to be used and blocked, which affects the performance of the Web server. On the client side, consumers of Web services have the option of calling Web services asynchronously or synchronously. Your code should call a Web service asynchronously only when you want to avoid blocking the client while a Web service call is in progress. If you are not careful, you can use a greater number of worker and I/O threads, which negatively affects performance. It is also slower to call a service asynchronously; therefore, you should avoid doing so unless your client application needs to do something else while the service is invoked. * Inefficient Web method processing. A common example of inefficient processing is not using a schema to validate input upfront. This issue can be significant because the Web method may de-serialize the incoming message and then throw exceptions later on while processing the input data. How to Enhance the Service Serialization The amount of serialization that is required for your Web method requests and responses is a significant factor for overall Web services performance. Serialization overhead affects network congestion, memory consumption, and processor utilization. To help keep the serialization overhead to a minimum: XML Compression Compressing the XML payload sent over the wire helps reduce the network traffic significantly. You can implement XML compression by using one of the ollowing techniques: * Use SOAP extensions on the server and client for the compression and decompression of requests and responses. * Use a custom HTTP module on the server and override the proxy for the Web service on the client. * Use HTTP compression features available in IIS 5. 0 and later versions for compressing the response from the Web services. Note that you need a decompression mechanism on the client. Caching Caching is a great way to improve Web services performance. By reducing the average request time and easing server load, caching also helps scalability. You can cache frequently used data applicable to all users, or you can cache SOAP response output. You can cache application data by using ASP. NET caching features. You can cache SOAP output by using either the ASP. NET output cache or by employing perimeter caching. When designing a caching strategy for your Web services, consider the following guidelines: Design Chunky Interfaces to Reduce Round Trips Design chunky interfaces by exposing Web methods that allow your clients to perform single logical operations by calling a single Web method. Avoid exposing properties.Instead, provide methods that accept multiple parameters to reduce roundtrips. Do not create a Web service for each of your business objects. A Web service should wrap a set of business objects. Use Web services to abstract these objects and increase the chunkiness of your calls. Prefer Message-Based Programming over RPC Style You can design Web services by using either of two programming models: messaging style and RPC style. The RPC style is based on the use of objects and methods. Web methods take object parameters to do the processing, and then return the results. The messaging style does not focus on objects as parameters. It is based on a data contract (schema) between the Web service and its clients. The Web service expects the message to be XML that conforms to the published data contract. This approach allows you to package and send all parameters in a single message payload and complete the operation with a single call, thus reducing chatty communication. The Web service may or may not return results immediately; therefore, the clients do not need to wait for results.Use Literal Message Encoding for Parameter Formatting The encoded formatting of the parameters in messages creates larger messages than literal message encoding (literal message encoding is the default). In general, you should use literal format unless you are forced to switch to SOAP encoding for interoperability with a Web services platform that does not support the literal format. Prefer Primitive Types for Web Services Parameters There are two broad categories of parameter types that you can pass to Web services: * Strongly typed . These include .NET types such as  double  and  int, and custom objects such as  Employee,Person, and so on. The advantage of using strongly typed parameters is that . NET automatically generates the schema for these types and validates the incoming values for you. Clients use the schema to construct appropriately formatted XML messages before sending them. * Loosely typed. These parameters use the  string  type. Note that you should not pass XML documents as string parameters because the entire string then needs to be XML encoded. For example,  ;lt;  and  ;gt;  needs to be converted to  ;amp;lt  and  ;amp;gt  and so on.Instead, you should use either an  XmlElement  parameter or implementIXmlSerializable. The latter is the most efficient and works well for large data sizes, regardless of which encoding style you use, you should prefer simple primitive types like  int,  double, and  string  for Web services parameters. Use of primitive types leads to reduced serialization and automatic and efficient validation by the . NET Framework. Avoid Maintaining Server State Between Calls Maintaining per-caller state in memory on the server limits scalability because the state consumes server resources. As an alternative, you can pass state back and forth between the client and Web service. Although this approach enables you to scale your service, it does add performance overhead — including the time taken to serialize, transmit, parse, and de-serialize the state with each call. Input Validation for Costly Web Methods If you have a Web method that performs costly and time-consuming processing, consider validating the Web method input before processing it. It can be more efficient to accept the validation overhead to eliminate unnecessary downstream processing. However, unless you are likely to receive invalid input frequently, you should probably avoid schema validation due to the significant overhead that it introduces. You need to assess your specific situation to determine whether or not schema validation is appropriate. You can validate input data either by using SOAP extensions or by using separate internal helper methods that your Web methods call. The advantage of using SOAP extensions is that they permit you to separate your validation code from your business logic. If there is any schema change in the future, the extension can change independently of the Web method.Approach to Caching You can greatly enhance Web services performance by caching data. With ASP. NET Web services, you can use many of the same caching features that are available to ASP. NET applications. These include ASP. NET output caching, HTTP response caching, and ASP. NET application caching. In common with any caching solution, your caching design for a Web service must consider issues such as how frequently the cached data needs to be updated, whether or not the data is user-specific or application-wide, what mechanism to use to indicate that the cache needs updating, and so on.For more information about caching with Web services, see the â€Å"Caching† section later in this chapter. Approaches for Bulk Data Transfer and Attachments You can use the following approaches to optimize the performance of bulk data transfer: * Chunking. With this approach, you use fixed-size byte arrays to send the data one chunk at a time. * Offloading the transfer. With this approach, you return a URL from your Web service which points to the file to be downloaded. * Compression. You can use a SOAP extension to compress the SOAP messages before transmitting them. This helps when you are constrained primarily by network bandwidth or latency. To handle attachments, your options include: * WS-Attachments * Base 64 encoding * SOAP Message Transmission Optimization Mechanism (MTOM) Avoid Calling Local Web Services Web services located on the same computer as a client ASP. NET application share the same thread pool with the ASP. NET application. Therefore, the client application and the Web service share the same threads and other related resources, such as CPU for request processing.Calling a local Web service also means that your request travels through the entire processing pipeline and incurs overhead, including serialization, thread switching, request queuing, and de-serialization. In addition, the  maxconnection  attribute of Machine. config has no affect on the connection limit for making calls to local Web services. Therefore, local Web services always tend to give preference to the requests that come from the local computer over requests that come from other machines. This degrades the throughput of the Web service for remote clients How to cite Causes of Slow Internet and Solut, Papers

Business Construction Contract Fluctuation Risks

Question: Discuss about the Report for Business Construction Contract of Fluctuation Risks. Answer: 1: A construction contract should always be in written form and thus drafting of the same holds utmost importance. Since a construction contract is subject to varying uncertainties and ambiguities, hence its drafting should be done carefully. Hence a construction contractual agreement should contain some important clauses such as the legal implications, performance of the contract, remedies in case of breach of contract, escalation clause and if the contracting parties belong to different countries then an exchange fluctuation clause is a must. Since the nature of construction contract is highly uncertain and vague in nature hence there are some terms and conditions which automatically become a part of the contract if not detailed explicitly. . One such terms that should be mentioned is the exchange fluctuation clause if the contracting parties belong to different countries. However if the same is not a part of the written agreement then it is deemed to be a fixed price contract (Construction Industry Council. 2011). Those contracts which take a long time to mature are often vary to currency fluctuation risks. Thus if such a clause is not a part of the agreement then the person performing the construction of the asset does not possess the right to halt the construction claiming the exchange difference. But a deviation to the said rule is that if the other party agrees for the exchange difference and there exists mutual consent between the two for the same then the said contract becomes a valid one. Similarly in the said case the contractual agreement signed between the ship builder and the North Ocean Tankers does not mention the exchange fluctuation clause separately. Due to currency fluctuation, there was a devaluation of the currency by 10% and the contractor immediately stopped the performance of the contract stating that he would resume work only once he has been made good for the exchange fluctuation. Since the buyer had already taken a charter basis the same he agreed for the payment and the tanker was hence forth delivered to North Ocean tankers on time, It is a clear case of breach of contract terms and conditions since it was a fixed price contract and hence the builder had no right to halt the work. But the buyer came under the influence of the ship builder and ended up paying him the amount demanded (Petter, Leyland, 2012). Thus the very crux of the situation gets defeated because of the acceptance of the condition laid down by the builder. Therefore had the buyer filed a legal suit against the builder then he would have become liable for the compensation from him for the loss that he would have suffered due to non-fulfilment of the contract but the fact that he had agreed to the terms and made the requisite payment diluted the position of the buyer. Therefore in the said case it is difficult for the buyer to get any claim since considerable time had passed since the delivery of the tanker. Secondly it would be very difficult for him to prove in the court of law that there was a breach of contract since he had also agreed to the same and fulfilled the demand. Thirdly, the builder had not delayed the performance of his act and provided the tanker to the buyer on time (Forrester, 2015). Therefore on viewing the issues practically it is understood that the buyer has delayed in bringing any kind of legal proceedings against the ship builder, hence it seems to be difficult for him to succeed as the case shows that both the parties have performed their duties in good faith. Beauty and Body Image in the Media Essays

Beauty and Body Image in the Media Essays Beauty and Body Image in the Media Essay Beauty and Body Image in the Media Essay Review Of Literature Beauty and Body Image in the Media ( Men ) Review – 1 From the , Journal of Marketing Communication Vol. 11. No. 1. 3-19. March 2005 Idealized images of the male body in advertising: a reader-response exploration BY- RICHARD ELLIOTT CHRISTINE ELLIOTT Warwick Business School. University of Warwick, Coventry. UK. Harris Manchester College University of Oxford. Oxford. UK Introduction : This is a study which particularly focuses on how men are being portrayed in advertisements This study has used an interpretative methodology for exploring mens reactions to the representation of male bodies in advertising, particularly when men are portrayed in a sexual or naked pose and complimented past studies by investigating whether or not men felt that they were being objectified or exploited in advertising in the same manner as critical and feminist literature has suggested in relation to women. The extent to which men felt that the representation of idealized male images in advertising had an adverse effect on their self-image and self-esteem is discussed. Emergent interpretive themes include homophobia, gender stereotyping and the legitimization of the exploitation and use of sexuality in marketing. This study set out to explore the extent to which men may be similarly negatively affected by idealized representation of male bodies and the ways in which they negotiate the meaning of representations and their coping strategies for any emotional disturbance. Representations of the Male Body in Advertising : The researchers have focused on how men are portrayed in advertisements , and they have collected responses from many other researchers . All these researchers have commonly said that , men have become more preoccupied with muscularity because it is still perceived as a cultural symbol of masculinity. Men are developing an Adonis complex and eating disorders after being overexposed to idealized and unattainable male bodies in advertising. Since the I980’s mens bodies have appeared more frequently in advertising, offering a similarly idealized body to that presented to women. An increasing number of advertisements are showing men as sex objects . These researchers have conducted many studies which showed how are men are portrayed in the advertisements . Kolbe and Albanese a researcher has conducted a content analysis of sole male images in mens magazines and found that the majority of the bodies in advertising were not ordinary, but those of strong and hard male icons . His study says that men were usually represented in an objectified and depersonalized manner in advertising. Pope et al another undertook a study of male body obsession and found that advertisements for everything from cars to underwear were using body-builder images with washboard abdominal muscles, massive chests. nd inflated shoulder’s. a combination of muscularity and leanness probably achievable only by drugs. A study by Patterson another researcher also identified a relatively uniform depiction of male bodies within lifestyle magazines, where the audience was routinely presented with mesomorphic (strong, muscular and hard) male bodies that were hyper-masculine in their iconography. The depiction of ectomorphs (thin and lightly muscled) was limited mainly to the advertising of clothing where products may look more attractive on the slimmer, taller man. Endomorphs (soft and round) were rarely used and, where they were, tended to be the object of humour. Moreover, Patterson and England (2000) indicated that representations of male bodies were often used irrespective of whether they were relevant to the product category being advertised. Mens Responses to Representations of the Male Body : Researchers Kimmel and Tissier-Desbordes had conducted a study with 30 French men in order to determine whether brands and consumption played an important part in their lives. The study has suggested that men were uncomfortable with products that presented men as feminine. Their study explored mens relations to products and masculinity in general, but was not related to body image and provided only limited insight into mens reactions to advertisements. To date then, very little is known about how men react emotionally to the portrayal of male bodies in advertising. There is a suggestion that some of the men in the study by Researchers Kimmel and Tissier-Desbordes demonstrated a fear of admitting a feminine side to their self-image . Methodology of the research : In order to do a study of portrayal of men in advertising these researches have done this research with Two main research questions 1. How do young men respond to the representation of male bodies in advertising, particularly when men are portrayed in a sexual or naked pose? 2. How do young men negotiate the sexual meaning of advertising images in a social setting? setting? One-one interview They researchers had conducted this one to one interview because, they have said that the one-to-one in terviews would allow trust to be established and allow the exploration of underlying motivations, beliefs, attitudes and feelings . The researches had conducted twelve in-depth interviews, which ranged from 40 minutes to 2 hours in length. The ages of the respondents varied from 18 to 31 years, with the majority of respondents being in their early twenties. The interviews were audio-laped and transcribed for analysis. The researches had also collected 25 advertisements from major mens lifestyle magazines five advertisements were chosen as stimulus material so as to allow the examination of responses to different advertisements and different body types. Focus groups The focus groups were used for studying whether the male respondents would alter their responses to the advertisements when in a peer group environment. The number of participants in the focus groups varied from five to eight men with the same age spread as in the individual interviews. Conclusion: This study was based on men’s portrayal in advertisement . Many researchers have given their views in this regard which gives a much detailed informa tion of how men are portrayed in the advertisements.
